Welcome to Watertown

Part of the Greater Boston area lies Watertown just beyond Cambridge. Watertown was one of the earliest of the Massachusetts Bay Colony Settlements which was founded in 1630. Then parts of Watertown had been merged into the existing Cambridge and used to form the newer towns of Weston, Waltham, Lincoln, and Belmont. The historic Watertown Arsenal, which still stands today, produced military armaments from 1816 through World War II. The Arsenal has seen been turned into a shopping plaza. In 1829, Perkins School for the Blind was founded and has been located in Watertown since 1912 still running today.

With access to major arteries into downtown Boston as well as MBTA bus and trolley routes throughout the town Watertown remains a desirable residential community for many seeking diversity. Watertown has the third largest Armenian Community and Watertown Square became the location for the Armenian Library and Museum of America in 1988. The Public School system operates three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Major employers in Watertown include Tufts Health Plan, Athena Health, Harvard Business Publishing, and New England Sports Network.

Much like surrounding Middlesex County town’s, Watertown is home to many historic homes and sites. When the community is not rallying around it’s winning high school sports teams you can find yourself enjoying a quick trip downtown or to Harvard Square, taking in the beauty of the Mount Auburn Cemetery or kayaking down the Charles River. A notable local grocer that is a community fan favorite is Russo’s.
