Welcome to Lexington

A town northwest of Boston and surrounded by 8 other cities and town lies Lexington, the site of the first shots of the American Revolutionary War. First settled in 1642 Lexington was a farming community apart of Cambridge. Further growing into it’s own town in 1712 the real growth came from post-World War II which brought a housing development increase.

Today, Lexington is primarily residential however a more than 16,000 people work in the community being employed by many different industries and commercial establishments such as MIT Lincoln Lab, Stride Rite, and Global Insight. Lexington has a variety of historic homes from different centuries and there are four historic districts in the town that are overlooked b the Historic Commission. Lexington Public Schools consist of six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. There is also a regional high school, Minuteman Regional High School and a few private schools.

Buses throughout the town provide access to Boston’s MBTA and there is access to I-95.

Lexington is home to the Lexington Symphony, which performs at Cary Hall and to the Minute Man National Park. 12% of land in Lexington is privately held for conservation land. The town center has many fine dining restaurants, art galleries, shopping, movie theatre, and many historic landmarks. In the warmer months, you can also find locals taking a swim in “The Res” or ice skating there in the winter when it freezes.

While many throughout the Bay State area are celebrating Marathon Monday on Patriots Day the Lexington Community has it’s own tradition at 5:30am with a reenactment of the Battle of Lexington followed by a weekend of parades, historic house tours, and community events.
